Leaving Marrakech behind, entering another world

The experience begins in Marrakech, where vibrant streets and bustling energy slowly give way to winding mountain roads. With every kilometer southward, the landscape transforms — palm groves fade, replaced by rocky cliffs, deep valleys, and crisp mountain air.

Soon, you arrive in Imlil, a peaceful mountain village perched at 1,740 meters above sea level. This is the gateway to the Toubkal region, where silence replaces noise and every view feels like a postcard carved into stone and sky.

Imlil: a Berber haven in the heart of the Atlas

In Imlil, life flows gently. Stone houses cling to the slopes, walnut and apple trees shape the valleys, and narrow paths connect scattered hamlets.

You can wander through local artisan shops, discover handcrafted Berber silver jewelry, or simply pause with a glass of mint tea while gazing at the towering peaks.

Lunch becomes a cultural moment — shared in a traditional Berber home or enjoyed on a panoramic terrace overlooking the mountains, including iconic lodges such as the Kasbah Toubkal retreat, facing the majestic Toubkal massif.

Following the path into the high mountains

For those ready to venture deeper, the trail begins to climb through lush valleys toward the small village of Aroumd, where mountain life feels untouched by time.

The route continues to Sidi Chamharouch, a spiritual resting point nestled among boulders and riverbanks, before ascending further toward the Toubkal base refuge.

From here, the landscape becomes more austere, more powerful — and the ultimate challenge reveals itself: the ascent of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 meters. At the summit, the reward is absolute silence and a horizon that stretches endlessly across the Atlas range.
